The State of Mississippi has got to be ecstatic on what has transpired in the first half of the college football season. When the college football rankings came out Sunday afternoon, Mississippi State was #1 and Ole Miss was #3. The fan base of these two teams is as passionate and fanatical about their teams as any in college football. They just happen to not have much to cheer about in the last couple of decades. The only comparison I can think of would be Alabama and Auburn, but both of these schools have just recently won the National Championship.
It’s truly amazing that Alabama and Mississippi, two states that are not heavily populated can produce so many talented football players. It’s also amazing that all four of these teams are not only in the same conference but they are in the same division!
I know we are only halfway through the season but the whole State of Mississippi must be floating on cloud nine. Both of these schools have been pretty much regional players in the recruiting world and have not had much national media attention. With this recent success, look for both teams to now expand their recruiting base and get into states that they have not recruited in the past. And…with the national media invading the state on a daily basis, look for the rest of the United States to finally discover that Mississippi really does have electricity, Wi-Fi, and running water!!!
