Two Reasons The Big 12 was Eliminated from the College Football Playoffs

Saturday night I had to cast my ballot for the USA Today’s Coaches Poll. My top six were :

1. Alabama
2. Oregon
3. Florida State
4. Ohio State
5. Baylor
6. TCU

I really was not surprised when the selection committee came out Sunday afternoon with the same top six. When the final gun sounded Saturday night, this is what made the most sense. There doesn’t seem to be much doubt about the top 3, but it was 4-6 that stirred up the most controversy. Why did Ohio State deserve to be #4 ?

Bottom line is that they were 12-1.  Baylor and TCU were 11-1. The fact that Baylor beat TCU moves them to #5 and TCU to #6. If the Big 12 wants to play on a level playing field, then they need to play a Championship game. I’m sure the application is going in today!  Plus the fact that the Big 12′s motto of, ONE TRUE CHAMPION, didn’t help when the Commissioner of the Big 12 wouldn’t name ONE TRUE CHAMPION. Even though Baylor beat TCU in the head to head match up, for some reason, they still would not name Baylor the True Champion.

Had the Big 12 submitted Baylor to the committee as their sole champion it would have increased their chances to be the fourth team. But we have two great games in Oregon vs. FSU and Alabama vs. Ohio State.

This time, the committee got it right.
