Rivalry Week

Thanksgiving is a time to reflect on how much we have to be thankful for. Many of us are thankful for our children, the health of our parents or this great country. Then there is that shallow group of you out there that are thankful that it’s finally “RIVALRY WEEKEND”!  Yes, this is the one day of the year that for 24 hours, many of you will hate your friends, relatives, neighbors, business associates, and yes, even your own family … for a victory in this weekends rivalry game. And yes, this sin covers the whole country, from coast to coast, Oregon vs. Oregon State, Arizona vs. Arizona State, Ohio State vs. Michigan, Alabama vs. Auburn, Florida vs. Florida State, Ole Miss vs. Mississippi State.  I could go on and on.

One of the unique things about this year’s Rivalry Weekend is that many of the games could have a direct effect on the new playoff system for the National Championship. Oregon, Alabama, Florida State, Mississippi State, and Ohio State all must win this Saturday to remain in contention for the playoff. And in each one of these match ups, the underdog has a realistic chance to win the game.

So after Thursday’s Thanksgiving meal with all your loved ones  and sharing how God has blessed you and your family, make sure you properly prepare yourself for Satan Saturday. Yes, Satan Saturday!  That one day, just 48 hours after Thankful Thursday, that you pray for nothing but interceptions, fumbles, and penalties for your opponent!
