As we head into the last few games of the season, lets take another look at my top 6 teams for the playoffs for the National Championship. Even though things will change before the season is over, it is still fun to pick the top six as they stand after last weeks games.
1. Mississippi State. They have wins over two present Top 25 Teams, LSU and Auburn. They have a strong running game, (254 YPG) great QB, and average defense, 89th in the nation in Total Defense. Dak Prescott, their QB is a Heisman Trophy candidate.
2. FSU. They also have two wins over two present Top 25 Teams, Clemson and Notre Dame. Their defense and running game is average, but in Jameis Winston they might have the best performer in college football under pressure. FSU and Mississippi State are the only 2 undefeated teams.
3. Oregon. Probably the most explosive offense today. They are #1 in the nation in Team Passing Efficiency and 5th in the nation in 3rd Down Efficiency. Their QB, Marcus Mariota is the leader for the Heisman Trophy but their weakness is defense, 104th in the nation in Total Defense.
4. TCU. Four quality wins Minnesota, Oklahoma, West Virginia, and Kansas State. Their QB, Trevone Boykin could play his way into the Heisman Race. They lead the nation in Turnover Margin and 3rd in the nation in Scoring Offense, 47 pts. a game.
The two teams that round out the top 6 that could play their way into the playoffs are Alabama and Arizona State. Alabama will easily get in if they defeat Mississippi State and Auburn. Arizona State will have to win their remaining games, with their toughest challenge being the Arizona game.
