First of all, what are Utes? It is what the University of Utah athletic teams are called. The Utes are a tribe of Native Americans. There, now we know!!! But what a job that Head Football Coach Kyle Whittingham has done at the University of Utah.
They just broke into the the top ten of the AP Poll at #10. And there seems to be no argument that it is well deserved. To go along with the 62-20 slaughter of Oregon on Oregon’s home field this week, they opened the season with a win over Michigan. How good is Michigan? After the loss to Utah, they reeled off 3 straight victories and are now ranked #22 in the AP Poll. Michigan’s defense is ranked nationally #2 in total defense and #4 in scoring defense.
Is Utah for real? We don’t yet, it’s too early in the season. But I think most analyst would agree, 4 games into the season, the “Utes” are the surprise team in college football.
