Over the next several weeks most churches will be starting their version of Vacation Bible School. While this is a great resource for the church, the family, and the community, it should not replace the parent’s role in developing their children’s spiritual growth.
You don’t have to look any further than Deuteronomy 6:5-9 to see exactly what God’s instructions are for parents. Parents should show in the way that they live their lives, that God is their number #1 priority. Children will imitate what they see and hear from their parents. Parents should be relentless in communicating Godly standards to their children. Deuteronomy 6:7 says parents should be engaged spiritually from the moment their child gets up, all throughout the day until they go to bed at night. Sharing Bible stories, praying together, and simply recognizing Gods Creation, are some of the practical ways parents can develop their children’s love for God.
So yes…take your children to a local Vacation Bible School..but when it’s over, make sure you have a good Deuteronomy 6:5-9 plan!
